Bosch Fridge Freezers
The company's 19th century founder Robert Bosch stated that quality was the most important factor in his appliances and that ethos is still strong in the 20+ fridge freezers that are available from the well known appliance manufacturer.
Price and looks
As with most major brands Bosch offer quite a large range of prices starting at around £350 for the basic models with the more expensive ones costing in excess of £700; if you opt for an 'American style' fridge freezer however you can expect to pay well over £1,000 due to the increased size, power and number of features.
Whilst the phrase 'white goods' still applies to most of the Bosch fridge freezer offerings many of the models come with a stainless steel or black finish which gives the appliance much more of a modern look, however even for those that are white the inclusion of bright LED lights and the option for electronic controls keep them in the 21st century.

American Style
As mentioned before Bosch also offers a modest American style range which are not only on average two times larger with a two door vertical fridge/freezer divide, but also benefit from a bigger range of features: most models come with ice dispensers whilst others also boast filtered water dispensers and vegetable containers with independently adjustable temperatures. Unfortunately a side effect of having a larger appliance is that running costs will also be higher, which is an important factor to be taken into account when purchasing a new fridge freezer.
Free standing v Built in
The second major distinction between the Bosch offerings is those that are free standing and those that are 'built in'. The latter offers you greater flexibility with the aesthetics as you can hide it behind cabinet doors that are in keeping with the rest of the kitchen, however not only are they underrepresented in the Bosch range compared to the free standing option but they also tend to be more expensive due to the need to work in smaller spaces. Another key aspect when considering running costs is the efficiency rating of the fridge freezer, however one of the advantages of choosing a Bosch fridge freezer is that all of the models have either an A+ or A++ rating so you are guaranteed that your purchase will be efficient.
Features
Moving onto the features and we see that Bosch offer quite a wide range to cater for every need. The SuperFreezing and SuperCool functions allow for you to, at the touch of a button, 'boost' the cooling/freezing power of the fridge for a short period of time. This allows you to compensate for the increased heat when a large amount of food is put in the fridge, or to freeze food quicker in order to retain more of the nutrients and comes with automatic deactivation so that you don't accidentally leave it on. The more expensive models also come with optical and audible alarms to inform you when the door has been left open to save you losing energy and 'coolness'.
Frost Free fridge freezers sit at the higher end of the price range but are easier to run due to the reduced frost build-up, it is however important to remember that the system requires air circulation to work and a full or nearly full freezer compartment will be a lot less effective in this respect. Another function that eases the cleaning requirements is the presence of removable magnetic door seals which allows you to easily get behind the seals where dirt and grime can accumulate.
Some fridge freezers also offer anti-bacterial protection which is a health boosting feature that sits in the lining of the fridge freezer and hinders the growth of bacteria resulting in increased food longevity and potential reduced food poisoning and odour.
One feature that you are unlikely to think about is the freezer storage time in the event of a power outage: this can range from 10 to 25 hours and if either power cuts are common or you often store food you really do not want to defrost this could be an important feature to note.
Competitors
Whilst Bosch may not have the large range or low price offered by other brands (Hotpoint, LG and Leibherr are generally better than Bosch with regards to those two factors) they are certainly the brand to choose when it comes to quality: they are much more likely to stand the test of time and the high quality means they may well be better value for money in the long run.
