Indesit Fridge Freezers

Although many people have fully fitted kitchens with integrated fridges and freezers, the separate appliance is still very popular and for larger families a better solution, as integrated fridge freezers are often smaller and are less flexible in that the fridge and freezer areas are equal, for the sake of the cosmetic look of the doors. Indesit mainly manufacture non-integrated appliances, but there are a couple of built in models in their range.

The Indesit range of fridge freezers are very flexible, with proportions of 1:4 through to 1:1 freezer to fridge. For the smaller family or perhaps for the cook who prefers to use fresh produce only, the smaller freezer section gives just enough space for some ice cubes, ice-cream and the occasional emergency pie, while the 50/50 style means that there will be ample room in the freezer for ready meals and frozen vegetables and fruit in a glut in the freezer and also plenty of space in the fridge for fresh produce, leftovers, milk and drinks.

Prices in the Indesit range begin at around £180 and go right up through £490 for the fridge-freezer in the Indesit Prime range, which has many special features including holiday mode to the very stylish three door Indesit 3 DA S which is around £560. Most fridge freezers from Indesit come with antibacterial control to keep the inside bug free and smelling sweetly.

Auto-defrost

It is rare these days to find a freezer or fridge which needs manual defrosting and this is partly because an iced up appliance is not using energy efficiently. As most people nowadays look for at least an A rating when buying an appliance, this is a very important feature. Essentially, it means that the fridge or freezer lets the temperature rise very slightly on a regular basis and the water from the melted ice drains away through the back and is evaporated on the heat of the motor. The drain needs to be kept clean, but this is a small price to pay for avoiding for ever hours on your knees with kettles and hairdryers – and we've all been there!

Antibacterial

Fridges and freezers with antibacterial properties will still need to be kept clean, but silver compounds built in to the lining material of the appliance inhibits the growth of moulds and bacteria at lower temperatures. Most Indesit fridge freezers have this type of lining and whilst it does not claim to make the interior of the appliance bug free it does cut down bacterial growth and many people report that food does keep fresh longer where antibacterial linings are present.

Super Freeze

On the higher end Indesit fridge freezers it is possible to choose this function when freezing fresh foods. The temperature of the freezer is lowered so that foods freeze more quickly, so ice crystals do not form inside the food – this is what ruins the texture and makes some home-frozen foods so disappointing when defrosted. When the freezer has run at the lower temperature for a couple of hours, this feature automatically turns itself off to save energy.

Holiday setting

Going on holiday gives you a choice of leaving an empty fridge running or coming home to a niffy appliance if you switch it off. The holiday mode on the higher end Indesit models give you another option – switch to this and the fridge is kept running but at only just below room temperature, taking very little energy but preventing musty smells. Because the freezer is not being opened all the time it can also go into holiday mode, saving money.

Frost Free

This is not the same as auto defrost as this type of fridge never makes any ice at all. The interior of the fridge and freezer are kept drier than usual and so no condensing water forms ice on the inside. Food in this type of freezer keeps slightly better than in other fridges, but sometimes users may notice that certain foods become dry on top and that salad may wilt sooner. This is often dealt with by manufacturers by the inclusion of a dedicated salad crisper that has its own internal atmosphere.
